After the double-magnon excitation is created on the same site (second row from the top), it can freely move to the next nearest neighbor (bottom row) by four spin exchanges and exciting four magnons in the intermediate state (middle rows). The similarities between the propagation in a , b rationalize the experimentally observed similar dispersion relation of the exciton and double-magnon. These processes are mediated by the different spin-exchange interactions, with the third nearest neighbor exchange process playing the leading role.
