Bfr monomers fold into a 4 -helical bundle that spontaneously assemble to form a cage with rhombic dodecahedral symmetry composed of 24 identical subunits. Each face is made up of a dimer (one such face is highlighted by the black oval) in which the subunits are arranged anti-parallel to one another.
