Model of pluripotency states inin vivoandin vitro. Naive pluripotency is established in the epiblast of the pre-implantation mouse embryo. After implantation, the epiblast transitions to a formative state from which PGCs are induced. Although somatic precursors progress to primed pluripotency, a latent pluripotent state that shares features with naive pluripotency is established in PGCs. Similar pluripotent transitions are observedin vitro. However, naive pluripotency is not fully constrained in PGCLCs, allowing them to exhibit enhanced naive pluripotent properties, including contribution to chimeras (hence access to the naive state is depicted as a solid arrow for PGCLCs but a hashed arrow for PGCs).
