Incubation with the STA core peptide significantly increased the FR (a correlate of neuronal excitability). The mean FR in slices incubated with the STA core was 6.4 0.85 Hz ( n = 12), compared to the mean FR in aCSF control slices of 2.7 0.32 Hz ( n = 12); Kruskal–Wallis test (Kruskal–Wallis statistic = 25.66, P < 0.0001) with Dunn’s multiple comparisons ( P = 0.0016). Incubation with the fibril core also significantly increased the FR compared to aCSF controls (mean FR in slices incubated with the fibril core was increased to 6.3 0.62 Hz ( n = 12); Kruskal–Wallis test with Dunn’s multiple comparisons ( P = 0.0006). No change versus aCSF control was observed with N-terminal or C-terminal tau. Data are presented as the mean s.e.m., with individual data points overlaid.
