Sample recordings show simultaneous monosynaptic excitation and disynaptic inhibition (inhibitory postsynaptic potentials [IPSPs]) in PC 2. With presynaptic M7 translation blockade in PC 1, inhibition of PC 2 by disynaptic connection #2 remained stable (after/before = 113%, p = 0.8, Student’s t test), whereas excitation delivered by monosynaptic connection #1 was suppressed (after/before = 66%, p < 0.001, Student’s t test). Traces at bottom are averages across periods indicated by green lines.
