The ammonia production level (i.e., energy consumption) is initialized (dashed green lines) with constant monthly ammonia production corresponding to 70%–80% of the average energy supply (solid gray lines) for a given month. Optimization occurs through increasing production at periods of surplus energy to increase overall ammonia production and decreasing production at periods of deficit to decrease the hydrogen storage requirement until optimal production scheduling is reached (solid green lines).
