The sample consists of a thin YIG film grown on a GGG substrate. Parallel rectangular areas (dark blue) are implanted using a Si 2+ focused ion beam (red cone). This way, spin-wave waveguides (light blue) are formed between the implanted areas with different nominal widths ranging from 500 nm to 3 m. To image spin-wave propagation within the waveguides, we measure the Faraday rotation of a linearly polarized femtosecond laser beam (blue) in a sample scanning microscope.
